UKNEST graduates meet Secretary of State for Defence

September 15, 2017

Graduate representatives from UKNEST presented their ideas for future Royal Navy submarines to Sir Michael Fallon, Secretary of State for Defence, during his visit to the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) conference and exhibition at ExCeL.  Engineers and Scientists from FutureNEST had been challenged by the Royal Navy to develop futuristic submarine concepts through a “visioneering” workshop.  This identified a range of solutions that included crewed motherships with whale shark/manta ray characteristics, unmanned eels ejecting autonomous sensor pods which dissolve on mission completion and swarms of mini-UUV “flying fish”.  For more information go to Nautilus 100
